This one-year course is designed for the study and practice of the basic elements of broadcast and photo journalism and video production. The course will emphasize news-gathering, writing, video recording, editing, and the study of mass media, photography and broadcast technology.

This is an entry-level course designed to teach students photography as an art form. Students will learn: the photographic process, techniques for use of cameras, composing and taking photographs, elements of good photographic design, or digital-produced special effects, and presentation of work. They will be introduced to the digital image workflow from image acquisition and management to printing. Technical skills will be taught in conjunction with the creative process. Students will be instructed using industry-standard processes and software. Students will also have the opportunity to become certified professionals in Adobe Photoshop.

Graphic Design is a year-long, project-based curriculum that develops career and communication skills in print and graphic design. A focus on the elements of design is at the foundation of the course. It will integrate photography, graphic design, desktop publishing, web and video production and advertising. Students will learn primarily Photoshop and Illustrator and have the opportunity to become an Adobe Certified Associate in Visual Communications. Projects will be real-world design opportunities that may include an introduction to the advertising environment.

Are you a gamer? Do you enjoy playing video games or coding? Does the idea of creating and designing your own virtual world excite you? If so, this is the course for you! Using Blender, Adobe Animate, and Unity you will tap into your creative and technical skills as you learn about the many aspects involved with designing and creating video games. You will learn about video game software and hardware, various gaming platforms, necessary technical skills, and even the history of gaming. And to top it all off, you’ll even have the opportunity to create your very own video game! Turn your hobby into a potential career and go from simply being a player in a virtual world to creating one!

Earn a CTE credit by working! Worksite Learning provides students the opportunity to learn in the workplace, while applying skills and knowledge obtained in a qualifying CTE class. Worksite Learning occurs at a qualified worksite outside the classroom in fulfillment of a student’s career and educational plan. There is no class to attend. Students are responsible for securing their own employment at a qualified worksite. By application only.

Yearbook is a year-long, project-based curriculum that develops career, and communication skills in page design, publishing techniques, graphic design, copywriting, editing and journalism. The yearbook staff will produce a creative, innovative yearbook which records student memories and events. Students in the yearbook class are the leaders and decision-makers of Ephrata High School.
