Courses in this Pathway

  • This hands on course is designed to familiarize students with nutrition, kitchen safety and food preparation, as well as planning and preparing food for special events. Units include: nutrition, food safety, quick breads and yeast breads, meat and poultry, appetizers, cake decorating and food presentation. Students will demonstrate food handling and preparation techniques, plan and prepare foods for class competitions, and use a variety of kitchen equipment.

  • A full year introductory class designed to acquaint students with multiple areas of home and family life. Units include: financial and career planning, food & nutrition, child development & baby care, and sewing & apron construction. Students will engage in projects including: keeping a financial record, filling out a job application, cooking (and eating), caring for RealCare electronic baby, and sewing an apron.

  • Units covered include: Food safety (food handler’s card), yeast breads and quick breads, meat and poultry, soups, pastry, appetizers, cake decorating and food presentation. 

     

    Students will: develop an understanding of the hospitality industry and career opportunities in the field. They will demonstrate food handling and preparation techniques. They will prepare food for events and weekly sales. They will prepare specialty cake and cookie orders. They will plan and prepare food in class competition that will be judged. All students will have the opportunity to run the Tiger Tail Cafe Espresso Stand. 

  • Earn a CTE credit by working! Worksite Learning provides students the opportunity to learn in the workplace, while applying skills and knowledge obtained in a qualifying CTE class. Worksite Learning occurs at a qualified worksite outside the classroom in fulfillment of a student’s career and educational plan. There is no class to attend. Students are responsible for securing their own employment at a qualified worksite. By application only.

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), is an EHS club that helps students prepare for careers in this area. FCCLA members make a difference in their families, careers, and communities by addressing important issues and participating in community service events.
