Horticulture feeds the world! This class will study the growth and survival of plants ultimately growing them in the greenhouse. Specific units of instruction will include: plant classification, basic plant science, plant growth, soil, and the basics of growing agricultural crops. Students will also work in the greenhouse to raise plants for the annual Ephrata High School FFA plant sale.

The first year welding curriculum is designed to introduce students to the metal shop environment. Students will be allowed to progress in this class at their individual pace. Students are not expected to come to this class with any background or experience. Specific units of instruction will include, but not be limited to: shop safety, oxy-acetylene welding, arc welding, wire feed welding, oxy-acetylene cutting, plasma cutting, metal shaping, and cold steel skill projects, and FFA. There are several required skills that all students must complete as the required competencies of the class. As skills are completed the students will select projects to design and construct that utilize the skills developed as a part of the first year curriculum. This class is articulated with BBCC for 2-6 college level credits if the student is a Junior or Senior, maintains a grade of “B” or better, and completes the BBCC Welding competencies.

The second year welding curriculum is designed to build on the skills that were developed in the first year program. Students will develop advanced level skills in oxyacetylene welding, arc welding, wire feed welding, oxyacetylene cutting, plasma cutting and plasma cam project work, and students will receive an introduction to the process of TIG welding. Shop safety and FFA are also specific units of instruction in this class. This class is designed to include several required competency skills that all students must complete. Due to the fact that their skill level is higher it is very likely that most students will be allowed about half of the year for project construction time. This class is articulated with BBCC for 2-6 college level credits if the student is a Junior or Senior, maintains a grade of “B” or better, and completes the BBCC Welding competencies.

The “FLORAL DESIGN” curriculum is intended to introduce students to a wide variety of horticulture enterprises specific to floral design and the retail florist business. This class will also emphasize units of instruction on floriculture plant identification, floral arranging and design, history of floral design, and the use of design principles in floral arrangements. Holiday arrangements will be utilized throughout the year to provide hands-on instruction opportunities for students.

This hands-on course introduces students to through activity based learning to  Animal Science, Plant Science, Natural Resources, and FFA. The course is structured to enable all students to experience an overview of the fields of agricultural science and natural resources so that students may continue through a sequence of courses throughout high school. Agriculture is the top employment sector in Grant County and holds many career opportunities.

Animal science will focus on the science, care, and handling of AGRICULTURAL animals that will include sheep, pigs, goats, llamas, beef, rabbits, horses, poultry, and aquaculture. Students will have hands on experience working with these animals under supervision at the school barn. The course will begin with general anatomy and physiology and then take a closer look at individual agriculturally important animals.

:This class is for students that are seriously considering a career in Welding/Manufacturing and/or Agriculture. The course will teach practical application of Algebra I as it applies to welding.

Earn a CTE credit by working! Worksite Learning provides students the opportunity to learn in the workplace, while applying skills and knowledge obtained in a qualifying CTE class. Worksite Learning occurs at a qualified worksite outside the classroom in fulfillment of a student’s career and educational plan. There is no class to attend. Students are responsible for securing their own employment at a qualified worksite. By application only.

Do you love the outdoors? Are you an avid fisherman, hunter, hiker or just enjoy nature? This class is for all of those who want to explore the great outdoors, lakes, wildflowers, native plants, forests, wildlife, rangeland, soil and much more. Explore in a hands on approach how people’s interactions with the natural world impact all that is around them. There is even a chance to make a fishing pole!

Have you ever wondered how to grow grapes instead of just eating them? Do you want to learn about how Food Science, the Production of Grapes, their products, and Agribusiness are all tied together? The Viticulture class will focus on growing grapes in a vineyard, grape production, the food science viticulture concepts, soil, pest management, and the business/marketing of vineyard production. Come take a science based hands-on approach to these topics while being a part of an actual live vineyard growing popular grapes for our region. This is one of the largest growing industries in Grant County with lots of job opportunities! This course counts as a CTE or science graduation requirement.

This course will allow students to advance their crops and livestock production knowledge and experience. Course concepts will include herd/flock management, animal reproduction, livestock evaluation & selection, animal products, value added agriculture and crop production. Course concepts will be applied at the school farm via the FFA sheep flock and experimenting with specialty crops. The final goal of this course will allow students to enjoy the fruits of their labor with a farm to table experience.
