Are you thinking about getting a Business degree or would you like to own your own business one day? Then take Accounting! Using commonly accepted accounting principles the students in this class will learn to keep financial records for a single owner business. The students will learn to use the language of business preparing journals, ledgers and financial statements. This is the perfect class to acquire the skills needed for a beginning bookkeeper and will provide a good foundation for college level classes.

This class is for students that are seriously considering a career in Business & Marketing. Students will learn about businessrelated writing and communications. Topics include: business reports and proposals, business presentations, interviews, business etiquette, persuasive messages, and digital media.

As our world becomes increasingly dependent on technology, Cybersecurity is a topic of growing importance. It is crucial that companies and individuals alike take precautions to protect themselves from the growing threat of cyber-attacks and hackers. This course prepares students with crucial skills to be responsible citizens in a digital future. Cybersecurity is designed to expose high school students to the ever-growing and farreaching field of cybersecurity. This will be accomplished through problem-based learning, where students roleplay as cybersecurity experts. Students are to use what they learn throughout this course to better society and to improve cyberspace for all. Students will build their understanding of ethical responsibility, and digital citizenship in an ever-changing digital world and will revisit those topics throughout each unit of study.

This is an introductory course in keyboarding, word processing and microcomputer applications. Class is taught primarily using Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Students are eligible to receive up to 22 college credits from Big Bend Community College. Students will have the opportunity to become certified through the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Program in Word, Excel or PowerPoint.

Students in Microsoft Imagine Academy may explore one of 2 tracks: Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) or Adobe Certified Associate (ACA). MOS students will explore applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Advanced Word, Advanced Excel, and Access. ACA students will explore applications including Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, After Effects, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash & more. Students will have the opportunity to become certified through Microsoft and Adobe to be more productive in school and business & marketing careers.

Do you want to go into business? Do you want to be your own boss? In this course, students will be introduced to the world of business, marketing and entrepreneurship. This class will help students develop key business skills and work ethic. Students will learn about business finances, public relations, marketing, budgeting, accounting principles and inventory management. Students are strongly recommended to join Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and compete at the regional, state and national level.

Intro to Computer Science focuses on computer theory, computing problems and solutions, and the design of computer systems and user interfaces from a scientific perspective. Includes instruction in the principles of computational science, computer development and programming, and applications to a variety of end-use situations. Students will apply what they learned using robots and drones.

Understanding and managing personal finances are key to one’s future financial success. The course presents essential knowledge and skills to make informed decisions about real-world financial issues. Students will learn how choices influence occupational options and future earning potential. Students will also learn to apply decision-making skills to evaluate career choices and set personal goals. The course content is designed to help the learner make wise spending, saving, and credit decisions and to make effective use of income to achieve personal financial success.

In this class, students will learn about the hard business decisions that go into the sports and entertainment events they enjoy in real life. Topics include event promotions, ticket pricing, stadium operations and staffing, sponsors, concessions, concert booking, and more. The curriculum will be augmented with both in-person and virtual field trips, guest speakers, as well as industry specific case studies and real-world applications. Employment of entertainment and sports occupations is projected to grow 22 percent from 2020 to 2030, much faster than the average for all occupations. Strong demand from the public for more movies and television shows, as well as the increasing popularity of sports, will contribute to job growth for the entertainment and sports occupations.

Earn a CTE credit by working! Worksite Learning provides students the opportunity to learn in the workplace, while applying skills and knowledge obtained in a qualifying CTE class. Worksite Learning occurs at a qualified worksite outside the classroom in fulfillment of a student’s career and educational plan. There is no class to attend. Students are responsible for securing their own employment at a qualified worksite. By application only.
